The Body Already Knows

What you’ve been searching for has been doing the searching.

The Suit We Forgot We Are Wearing

There’s this idea floating around that embodiment is something you arrive at – like a destination you reach after enough yoga, or breathwork, or cold plunges, or whatever the current protocol is. Like there’s a version of you, somewhere on the other side of enough effort, who is finally, fully in their body.

And to be honest-  I just don’t think that’s how it works.

The body isn’t a vehicle you pilot. It’s not a machine to optimize or a landscape to map or a problem to solve. It’s the thing doing the experiencing. It is the whole laboratory and the scientist inside it at the same time.

And somewhere along the way – through screens and schedules and strategies and the particular kind of exhaustion that comes from living almost entirely inside your head – we got confused about which one we were.

What Spontaneity Is Actually Teaching Us

Spontaneity gets misread as impulsivity. As chaos, or the opposite of being responsible, adult or put-together. But I think spontaneity is one of the most precise expressions of embodiment there is – because it’s what happens when you trust the intelligence that’s already moving through you, faster than thought, before the mind can even formulate a plan.

It’s the experience of discovering what you’re doing, saying, moving, expressing, only as the expression is unfolding. Like taking steps in the dark and trusting completely where your feet will land. Un-calculated. Unformulated. In-formulate-able. It’s the act of trust.

There is a natural intelligence written into the cells of this thing we’re walking around in. It was calibrated over an almost incomprehensible span of time.

And when we actually let it lead- and really lean into it, not as a concept but as a lived experiment – it leaves you in a pile of awe on the floor. Every single time.

The Bigger Picture

It sometimes takes experimentation to allow the natural intelligence we are created of, to reactivate and lead us spontaneously.

When we drop out of our heads and back into our bodies, we become more porous. More receptive. The frequencies we’re unable to pick up while running the constant machinery of rational thought start to finally come through. The conversation with nature opens back up. The antenna reactivates.

I’ve sat long enough in wild places, without the electrical hum of modern life penetrating my body pond, to know that something shifts in those spaces that can’t be explained and doesn’t need to be.

The body knows how to read things the mind has no language for. It’s not woo woo. It’s ancestral. It’s re-membering, in the most literal sense – putting the members back together.

And when more of us are doing this at the same time? I think we are at a tipping point – a collective re-entry into something that was always here, always available, waiting under all the noise.

Balancing the Logic with the Mystic

I’m not saying throw out the calendar or burn the to-do list. I’m not saying live on pure impulse either. There’s a middle thread here – thin, and easy to lose, that weaves the innate logic with the intrinsic mystic.

It just takes experimentation. Real experimentation, as a genuine act of curiosity about what happens when you step back from formula-following and see what the body wants to do, say, eat, move toward. Even for 20 minutes. Or even just once.

What I’ve found, every time I come back to this, is that the body isn’t chaotic. It’s quite the opposite. It’s been navigating without a map since before maps existed. It knows more about where we’re going than we give it credit for. And it’s been waiting, very patiently, to be included in the conversation.

Bio-Electric Intelligence

I don’t totally know why I’m writing this today. Maybe because I’ve been watching people – myself included – try to think their way into feeling okay, and it keeps not working the way thinking promises it will. The body has a different offer. A weirder, slower, more honest one.

Embodiment in the bigger picture means trusting that you, with all the galaxies of cellular, bio-electric information and intelligence,  are not separate from the intelligence that runs through everything else.

The jungle. The insect. The seed doing its thing underground in the dark. You’re made of the same molecules. You have access to the same knowing.

You just have to get back in the body long enough to remember that.

Loving you always!

Meghan
