The Intelligence of Mud

Remembering the ancient intelligence beneath our feet, within our bones, and woven through every living thing.

A Daily Ritual of Awe

I wrote this on Earth Day, April 22, 2026.

The other morning I woke up with the lyrics and melody of Nature Boy – “the greatest thing you’ll ever learn, is just to love and be loved in return.”

Today is Earth Day, and ultimately I wish that in the calendar there was a global auto reminder that every day is Earth Day.

I wish that just like we are raised to make it a mandatory ritual to brush our teeth, that we were also taught to make it a ritual, and to teach the young ones, that of equal and even greater importance, each day we are given the gift of life, is a day to celebrate, honor, acknowledge, nourish and LOVE the earth and ALL of her creatures.

Each day a new mission to be in AWE – to give that awe out loud, pouring from our hearts, emotions, actions, sensory organs and cellular satellites – back to the earth and every creature: human, dragonfly, element, wind, photon, leaf, vegetable, mineral, mud, ladybug, no matter how they are walking, crawling, flying, expressing.

That every creature here is equal and to be loved.

The Highest Internet

I wish every day, in every school and town everywhere, there was an earth hour – a moment to see her, feel, sense, touch, acknowledge, listen, and absorb her wise discourse of infinite wisdom.

Nature is the highest, most advanced internet that’s here.

She holds all of the intelligence, that which we can perceive and understand and also inter-dimensional, which is to be our great teacher.

And she is more than willing to share – all of it. If only our early curriculums had trained us to remember how to listen.

And just because it’s not a common curriculum unless one was raised in a forest, we still never fully forget. It’s just dormant and waiting to be reactivated. Trees are nature’s internet.

We cut them down and pour cement over their roots and track time by a digital god, and get light from the blasts of little black screens that fill our heads with nonsense mostly, and fry our antennas to nature’s quantum calculations and messages.

The digitized data slices the mycelium of the invisible inter-web we are meant to get our signals from. We get disconnected.

The Intelligence of Mud

I’m optimistic that as a pendulum swings, as the surge of non-human intelligences floods our feeds and days, human hearts and cells are craving the raw earth connection and analogue experience like one craves water after a sauna or fast.

We take for granted what we have until we experience the contrast of not having. Either of not having it or having too much of its contrast.

The earth is not a rock in space.

She’s an ancient being, the mother, the holder and nourisher of all the contrasts and differences. She speaks through every creature, has infinite languages and is the greatest, most genius artist that we can know.

And we get to place our feet and hands on her, and hug trees that know her deeply – and see her art that takes our breath away – smell and taste every flavor and expression. We get to be here, and learn and grow from her immense beauty and wisdom.

And every step, breath, sight, sound we sense is a thank you to her. Simply through the listening through our flesh, we are in communion. Insanity of humanity has swung to the edge.

Now let’s swing it back to the intelligence of mud.

Somewhere in Our Bones

Somewhere in everyone’s bones lives the highest love for Mother Earth.

It just gets buried, from the heartache of disconnection and the trauma of seeing abuse, inequality, murder, harm of her and her beings.

My heart aches as I write this because living life these days, seeing the global insanity and harm in every direction, is like watching someone you love the most be abused continuously and endlessly.

And I know that many of you feel this way too.

I know your hearts, how big you love, and that on some level when you see harm being done to another being, it hurts you too.

We are one connected organism, like flora on the skin of the earth. Just as the cells that come together to create our bodies compose us, we are an interconnected composition of Earth being.

And just as cells in the body go AWOL and lose sight of their mission, causing sickness, we too can forget.

Remembering How to Walk

If honoring the earth was as common as brushing our teeth, we would be walking differently with each step.

If we remembered that she is the wisest elder, holding all the medicines and wisdoms, as a global family we would bow to her creations in every form. Earth is not a rock to be controlled or conquered.

If we think we are so superior or intelligent, we certainly are doing a terrible job of showing it. If we did have any higher intelligence of any real kind, we would not be missing what is right in front of our eyes – that it’s paradise here.

Could you even imagine a more magical beauty than earth and her creations? There is abundance here. You can sprout a seed and grow a pumpkin to eat for a week. Every moment of a life lived here, held by her, is a gift.

Earth Moment

Every moment is earth moment. Not a day, or a minute, but a continuation of endless symphony, and they can all be “thank you.”

May we wake up and remember to hug, hold, admire, nourish, LOVE and be loved by every expression of earth’s language in every form, once again.

To put our energy into planting seeds and discovering her scriptures written in the trees, animals, insects and fellow humans.

I pray that the global pendulum swings, that educational curriculums are rewritten, and that one day, every day will be Earth Day.

I love you,

Meghan xx
