The Understanding That Neutralizes Fear

Sandpaper seasons, golden nuggets, and the inner knowing that never fully goes out

The Flickering Light Bulb

“Nothing in life is to be feared, it is only to be understood. Now is the time to understand more, so that we may fear less.” – Marie Curie

I need this wise reminder lately.

Sometimes it’s like inner knowing, understanding and wisdom is an old light bulb connected via sketchy wiring that’s flickering off and on. There, but not always fully there. Present but unreliable in a way that makes you tap the lamp a few times just to check.

As humans we go through seasons. Some are smooth and sweet like soft serve and others are like being in a bed of sandpaper while chewing on tinfoil.

Even when things feel impossible to understand, there is always a nugget of golden wisdom hidden somewhere, burrowed inside the maze of us. These nuggets sometimes need to be watered with space, patience, trust, courage and perseverance to be revealed.

Truly, understanding life and ourselves neutralizes fear.

Moving Through The Swamp

But also sometimes simmering a while in the sandpaper, progressively training ourselves to soften to the unknown and the discomforts, can be the most potent practice. One where we reveal to ourselves how powerful we are.

By moving through the swamp, rather than walking around it, we are generating an inner metamorphosis into a deeper understanding of the immensity, strength and beauty of our human spirit.

Our challenges are like obstacle courses that create the friction for us to evolve incrementally beyond our current state.

We have to feel like we are going backwards sometimes, or even just stuck in one spot, as these moments create the tension that’s sometimes necessary to catapult us into new territory.

I know it’s very easy to say, and tricky to practice. Things worth learning and growing through don’t usually come easy.

The Space Beyond The Noise

When so many parts and pieces of life are vibrantly unpredictable and uncertain – reach to the things within that are beyond all the chatter. That something bigger. It often takes getting wildly lost to find it.

We are all woven and wired in ways that are guaranteed to be unique, and so we each have our own personal way to plug into the space beyond the noise.

That space beyond the noise still contains the noise. It’s the container. It’s the place where we find ourselves more than capable of holding and accepting all the contrasting parts.

The bird’s eye view. The place that beams with the knowing that it’s okay. The rememberer of how to take things as they come. The comforter that is cozy even amongst the perceived chaos.

The Inner Knowing

I like to call to the greater part. The understanding that neutralizes fear, whilst softening simultaneously to the grit of the sand, knowing a more robust layer is in the oven – being baked.

We don’t need to try to stay there forever. To be human is to dip in and out, to learn from the squiggly paths along the way. To grow as human beings is to remember – it’s who we are.

Remember all the greatness that has been grown in and from the muck of your adversities. Focus on those growths in order to stay centered in the core of trusting the process you are in.

The inner knowing is always here. Always leading – even when the wiring feels sketchy and the bulb keeps flickering; it never actually goes out.

Love you,

Meghan
